Global Citizenship Starts Day One

Students are introduced to Agnes Scott’s first-of-its-kind immersive educational experience on their first day. Known as SUMMIT, this unique approach to a four-year liberal arts education forges professional success, inclusive leadership and global citizenship.

Study abroad is a formative and illuminating experience for college students but is typically delayed until junior or senior year. At Agnes Scott, all students have the opportunity to study abroad in year one. First-year students participate in a Global Journeys course, a week-long, faculty-led study of global issues in destinations like Milan, Ghana and Peru. Experiences are tailored to help participants understand how global social, economic and environmental factors impact and shape these places and the people who live there. Journeys experiences are completely funded by the college, offering every student the eye-opening experience of global learning.

SCALE Jumpstarts Professional Success

Supporters and partners of the college are an integral part of preparing and propelling Scotties to claim their place as inclusive leaders who look more like our world. In their sophomore year, students engage in an experiential learning program called SCALE, a week-long immersion with an Atlanta company or nonprofit. Students often describe SCALE as a turning point in their college career and a pivotal moment in defining their paths forward. Businesses that partner with us by offering internships, career coaching, or event sponsorship often go on to recruit from our pool of diverse, inclusive and prepared women leaders of every identity, because they have what it takes to positively impact their organizations.

SUMMIT Prepares Inclusive Leaders

In their junior and senior years, students begin to shape their own SUMMIT experiences with guidance and support from the College. Applied Career Experiences, or ACEs, is a unique offering to Agnes Scott College that serves as a bridge between academic preparation and postgraduate success. These week-long courses are shaped by faculty based on each student’s interests and trends in their chosen professionals.

Digital literacy is woven throughout the SUMMIT experience, so students can explore – and transform – their relationships to technology, leaving them prepared to navigate, excel and thrive in the ever-evolving modern workplace.
